An Employee’s Story

Dylan Casey joined Crystal Air as an Apprentice in 2015 and has excelled within our Service & Maintenance Team.

Dylan Casey - Employee Story

During the Easter Holidays of his Leaving Cert year Dylan completed two weeks work experience with Crystal Air to gain a better insight into completing an Apprenticeship in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.

Following completion of his Leaving Certificate in June 2015, Dylan joined the Service & Maintenance Department of Crystal Air as a first year RAC apprentice. It was very clear from the early days of his Apprenticeship that Dylan’s work ethic, dedication and commitment would result in him excelling in his Apprenticeship and career. In 2019 Dylan was awarded National Apprentice of the Year in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning which was an amazing achievement.

In September 2021 Dylan commenced an Engineering Services Management course in MTU and with the support of Crystal Air is completing this course 1 day per week over a 2-year period. On completion of this course Dylan will hold a Level 7 Bachelor of Science in Engineering Services Management.

Dylan’s Story

I heard about Crystal Air through my construction teacher in Secondary School. She had said they were offering Apprenticeships in air conditioning and refrigeration.

So, I looked into the trade and what it was about and found that it was a mixture of plumbing and electrical work mixed with the refrigerant side of things. What interested me was that I would be out on the road and in different places all the time meeting new people as well as the possible opportunity to work abroad.

For anyone who is interested in taking up an apprenticeship in air conditioning and refrigeration it is an excellent trade to get into and there are endless opportunities once you are qualified, as you will be trained in all the services that make up the buildings such as ventilation, heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing. There is a wide variety of work to be carried out and no 2 days are the same.

Following on from completing my apprenticeship I found I had a massive interest in learning more about the other services within a building and how they are selected. The Engineering services course incorporates the design aspect and how to piece all the different services together to ensure the building is as comfortable and efficient as possible.
