VENTILATION & AIR QUALITY
Naturally ventilate through open windows where possible. Run mechanical ventilation at higher volume flow rate, purging the space before occupancy. This may require set point changes. Where Air Handling units provide primary air, disable enthalpy (Thermal) wheels, however pressure difference should be maintained between supply & extract to minimise any leakage flow from the extract. Increase and run ventilation in toilets 24/7 and stairwells. Utilize Air Purifiers with HEPA Grade H13 filters to capture airborne particles of size 0.3 microns.
HEATING / COOLING & HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEMS
Heating & cooling systems can be operated as normal. Recirculation of air within a single room is acceptable if complemented by an outdoor air supply. A fingerprint of temperature and humidity in the area is advised to ensure humidity levels are above 30% where possible. If Lossnay type Heat Recovery units have been installed as primary ventilation operate heat recovery in bypass to avoid recirculation/transfer of air from one room to another where possible. If heating systems have been isolated, annual pre-heating season checks should be carried out.
LEGIONNAIRES AVOIDANCE
Legionnaires disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia. These bacteria can be found in many types of water systems where water has been left to stagnate. Water systems that have been shut down, had low water usage or modified control regimes during Covid_19 is particularly susceptible to formation of legionella bacteria. If this is the case Thermal Disinfection of hot water systems and water testing is advised.
