Gas Legislation is on everyone’s mind at the moment and those of us in the HVAC sector know that from 1st January 2010 there has been a ban on the use of all virgin R22 gases in the running and servicing of Air Conditioning systems, with an eventual phase out of R22 by 31st December 2014.

All end users want to know what they can do, and what are the most cost effective and sustainable options?

Crystal Air, specialists in customised air conditioning systems, have provided a simple solution for the Schoolhouse hotel in Ballsbridge.

Contracts director for Crystal Air David O Brien, and his team of engineers have recently begun work on the project which sees the old R22 Refrigerant System replaced with new Mitsubishi units which are run on R410A a non- ozone depleting substance (ODS).

In providing the best solution for installing an upgraded system Crystal Air considered 5 Key issues for their client The Schoolhouse hotel.

  • Efficiencies the system would provide for the future.
  • Ease of installation and upgrade
  • Consideration of existing furniture layout in the Rooms
  • Avoiding redecoration of rooms for cost savings
  • Capital investment required for upgrade

The unique and intimate 4 Star Schoolhouse hotel in Ballsbridge must receive credit for taking the step in planning a greener, more ozone friendly future for its Air Conditioning and comfort levels of its rooms.

The project itself consists of 31 bedrooms, served with individual indoor and outdoor units, along with units serving general areas such as corridors, meeting rooms, bar, lounge and it will take approximately a month to complete the works.
Managing Director of Crystal Air Domnick Ward, states that “this replace programme is one example of how our customers are reacting to legislation. We have found that extended warranties and more efficient equipment offers property owners and operators peace of mind for the future of their buildings.”
